Idk what exactly the issue was with the minimal installation. Some files in /etc/yum.repos.d/ had commented baseurls as igoruch remarked. For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. The problem is still there.
