Regardless.
ConsoleKit is used mainly to recognize if you are a local user or not. I'm trying to say, either migrate to systemd or pick another desktop with saner future plans like XFCE. - Samuli pandu at poluan Jul22,2013,5:53AM Post #4 of 41 (8072 views) Permalink Re: systemd Your missing the real reason for polkit. i ran gentoo for some years but that was before i started switching over to thin desktop clients (got tired of wailing fans and space heaters). So, obviously, the simplest way to start is to remove the USE flag "policykit" from my global use flags and do a world update and see what happens. With sudo, pretty much any security bug is going to be a flaw in sudo itself. I've been using Fluxbox for years : it's simple, highly configurable & quite adequate for everyday work ; you can use apps from KDE or Xfce, as you please. -- ========================,,============================================ https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=94544 CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" # These are the USE flags that were used in addition to what is provided by the # profile used for building. permalinkembedsaveparentgive gold[–]gaggra 4 points5 points6 points 1 year ago(7 children)Have you considered not being a confrontational asshole when trying to correct people? No, this is not reasonable to expect. navigate here I'm using gdm, so do I still need to have a custom ~/.xinitrc or make any changes to /etc/pam.d/system-login ?_________________"Ubuntu" - an African word meaning "Gentoo is too hard for me". bah, not needed. > > > So when do I have to install mysql to use it? THere's currently an attack vector on Ubuntu that allows any user in the sudo group to gain unlimited control of the system without having to enter a password even if /etc/sudoers
The attitude of the post is the least of the problem, the problem is the false accusation that I don't know what polkit does and that inane text that makes a Nothing I do even makes a query to polkit asking if I supposedly have such prviliges. As far as the resources thing, that's the speed argument isn't it? If I want shit like that done I use sudo and enter a password. You can configure sudo and polkit to require proof of identity for administration tasks. An i5 Haswell.
I'd be much more concerned with someone accessing the stuff in my home directory than the rest of the laptop. However the thing with sudo and security for personal computers is that for the most part root/user access doesn't really matter. Obviously, I don't want an unbootable system. > > > > How did you resolve this conflict? > > > > Many thanks for a hint, > > Helmut > > I really find their reasoning quaint, allowing system time to be changed without entering a password is for convenience.
If somebody has to use gnome? Adding confrontation into the mix only stunts your ability to have a reasoned discussion, because everyone is vulnerable to emotion. Sadly the GNU/Linux DEs are _way_ behind the rest of the software. this contact form Why on earth is this reasonable to expect at all?
Something needs to arbitrate: “you can mount filesystems, but only under certain conditions”. nm-applet will refuse do do anything as non-root (enable/disable networking or connect to anything). The "paranoid" approach. EDIT: I suspect you've developed a false dichotomy.

Not to mention that it's an extra security risk of someone overlooking something. I'm not sure how on a binary distro you would cut out polkit if you still want other stuff. thanks very much_________________Regards, NeddySeagoon Computer users fall into two groups:- those that do backups those that have never had a hard drive fail. boku (01.02.2014 22:46:56) СсылкаОтвет на: комментарий от boku 01.02.2014 22:46:56 rc-update add consolekit defaultДобавлен.
