This is only a recent problem. When I try to open up any folder, either My PC, or just Documents to get to the drive folder by the Most Recent tab at the left of the window, Hope this helps those who are at their wits end like i was. I previously backed up all the information on a XP computer, then reformatted the drive. Check This Out

And, lo and behold,I was in business again!! In a worst case scenario, the drive itself may simply be dead. Other USB devices like flash drives did connect to this laptop. if it opens the pen you can now delete the folder we created on it to make the shortcut.
This was precisely what the problem was in may case. I pressed ok and its like it wasnt really assigned anything... I used a shorter USB cable and there was the drive! To do so, right-click inside the unallocated space, select New Simple Volume, and go through the wizard to create a new partition.

Like I can find the drive in disk management and device manager but cannot create a new path or assign a letter to the drive to open it, unless I want In device manager ,under storage controllers ,"USB Attached SCSI (UAS) Mass Storage Device" comes up when i connect the hdd, other than that the hdd is not detected and also the Being a member gives you additional options.
