I can not install applications! every folder is created with the read-only attribute on and it can't be removed.. Nevertheless, I tried to get away with giving Modify permission to the Administrative account under which I am currently logged in. What happens is that the web server cannot write files into the directory (imagechace from drupal is you are really interested). the folder properties seems to be defaulted to "read only" and when i unset the read only in the folder properties and apply it seems to unset, but it actually doesn't. if no i can helpopen "my computer",Tools,Folder Options,View,Uncheck "simple file sharing"now on folder options you have a new tab security,open it,then remove all numeric(lost id) users, and add "everyone" or "administrators".

If your Permission For Administrators is grayed out, click ADVANCED. If so, this means that the folder is not Read-Only and that a file inside the folder may be. After realizing why the folders are set up this way and figuring out the correct way to fix the problem by setting the user privileges I'd rather not modify this setting. Ah there is the rub.
does any one have any ideas?
